FlightView had the opportunity to be a showcase partner for the highly anticipated
Palm Pre launch. The Pre has some significant new features, most importantly notifications.
This fit perfectly into FlightView's core business of real-time flight data, giving FlightView
a strong footprint in the exploding market of mobile applications.
Trouble is, with such a new platform, how can you deliver a product of the highest quality
in a ridiculously short timeframe?
FlightView chose Agile Commerce for the task. Having completed numerous projects
successfully with Agile Commerce, FlightView recognized that Agile Commerce understood
their business very well. In addition, Agile Commerce had the technical depth and
breadth necessary to tackle this entirely new platform.
Within weeks, we quickly produced a working application and started iterating on
the design and functionality. As the platform was still evolving, we communicated
heavily with the engineers at Palm and the architects of webOS. In one instance,
we worked directly with Palm engineers and their CTO of Software, Mitch Allen, to
improve the webOS implementation for notifications and task scheduling. Shortly
thereafter, Palm made some changes based on our feedback that significantly
improved the webOS framework support for alarms and notifications.
Since the application was much further along technically and aesthetically
than most, the FlightView application was featured at CTIA and Web 2.0 in April
2009, giving FlightView the opportunity for increased visibility. The company received
very positive press on the Pre application at the shows.
More importantly, the FlightView Pre application went live with
the Palm Pre as one of the premier applications in the App Catalog in June 2009.
